Class and Residential Visits 2020 - 2021
To Parents/Carers of Current Year 2 – Year 5 Children
I am writing to update you on plans for the above visits for the next academic year.
Following a review of our current residential programme, we have decided only to run residential visits in Years 5 and 6 (current Years 4 and 5). Class visits in Years 3 and 4 (current Years 2 and 3) will now be day visits relevant to curriculum topics.
As I am sure you are aware, whilst the residential visits do build independence and confidence, they are nevertheless a significant cost. For families with children in different year groups, this can pose financial difficulties. Added to this, some parents have felt that their child is not ready to undertake a stay away from home and this has on occasion led to some parents making requests that the school and residential venues cannot facilitate.
A great deal of planning is undertaken to keep cost down and where possible we have spent time organising and leading our own programme of activities rather than opting for a more costly programme led by outside agencies. However, there are significant costs in relation to transport over which we have no control. For residential visits to be cost effective and affordable to parents, we have to have a take up of at least 90% so the transport & accommodation costs can be split between a larger number of pupils.
As in previous years, we will continue to give at least 2 months notice of class visits and a minimum of 6 months notice of residential visits in order that the cost of all visits can be spread over a number of weeks.
