Lees Primary School

Caring, Sharing & Learning Together

Part of Bronte Academy Trust

Conversion to Academy Status Friday 1st July 2016

Dear Parents, Carers, Friends and the Community

The Governing Body and the school are pleased to announce that, as from Friday 1st July 2016, Lees Primary is part of the Bronte Academy Trust along with Oakworth Primary. Haworth will be joining us very shortly. Whilst this is a big change for the leadership of the school, it is business as usual for the children and staff and we look forward to working in partnership with you to extend the opportunities for all our children in this fabulous community.

Many of you will be aware that under Government legislation in 2010 Good and Outstanding schools can choose to convert to academy status. The Governing Body of Lees Primary School has been considering carefully the school’s future plans in a fast changing and increasingly challenging educational landscape.

The Governing Body think that the best plan is for Lees Primary School to become an academy as part of Bronte Academy Trust. The proposed trust will see ourselves, Haworth, Oakworth Primary Schools create a Multi-Academy Trust (MAT) and convert to academies on the 1st July 2016.

The Governing Body of Lees Primary School want to consult with parents, carers, staff, pupils and the wider community on the proposal for Haworth, Lees and Oakworth Primary Schools to form a MAT and convert to academy status.

The consultation period will run between Monday, 18th April 2016 and Wednesday 11th May 2016.  Following consultation, the Governing Bodies will consider a report on the findings of the consultation at a meeting in May and this will be made available online to all stakeholders via our school website.

We would like to invite parents and carers to find out more during the parent/carer drop-in at Lees Primary School at 6.30 pm until 7.30 pm on Tuesday 26 April 2016.

The session will be an opportunity to ask questions about academy status and how this will affect the school. Governors and the Headteacher will be available to talk to you and you will also be able to register your comments, queries and any thoughts on opportunities or concerns.

We have also prepared a Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) document to help answer some of the questions we anticipate you may have. Please click here to open the document.
